Summer Program Experience
 |
H. James Bennett -
Saint Louis University School of Law
“I sincerely enjoyed my summer with Thompson Coburn. Thompson
Coburn’s summer program allowed me the opportunity to work with some of the
greatest and most respected minds in the legal profession. There is no doubt
that the resources Thompson Coburn has to offer a young associate are
unmatchable.”

Allison Graves - University
of Alabama School of Law
“Thompson Coburn offers summer associates the ideal summer
experience. The white board system allowed me to learn about the variety of
practice groups Thompson Coburn has to offer, while not requiring me to work in
the areas in which I had no interest. The projects I did were always
interesting, and the assigning attorneys took the time to work closely with me
on them. The best part of working at Thompson Coburn though was the people.
From partners to first-year associates, every attorney I met was interested in
getting to know me personally. And with all of the social and work-related
events throughout the summer, there were many opportunities to get to know
attorneys other than the ones I worked for. I can’t imagine a better firm with
which to spend my summer.”

George Washington University Law School
"The best part of my summer experience at Thompson Coburn was
working with the attorneys. As a 1L summer associate, I was worried about not
having the opportunity to complete advanced courses and work on my legal
writing skills. I had no reason to be concerned. Each attorney I worked with
took the time to sit down with me and answer all my questions. All the people
at Thompson Coburn are genuinely invested in your success."

Brian Lamping - Saint
Louis University School of Law
“The recruiting staff at Thompson Coburn flawlessly
coordinated a summer schedule that consisted of great events like Cardinal
games, happy hours, and a trip to the Mt. Pleasant winery. In addition to
numerous social events, I truly enjoyed the everyday work experience at
Thompson Coburn. I learned a lot about TC’s culture and atmosphere because the
attorneys treated me like a ‘real lawyer.’ As a TC summer associate, I received
valuable training in topics such as legal research and trial preparation. I
enjoyed the assistance of a helpful secretary, and worked in an office that
overlooked the St. Louis riverfront and Gateway Arch. Most importantly, I felt
extremely comfortable in Thompson Coburn’s fun and relaxed work environment.”

Ross Linzer - Boston
University School of Law
"Unlike summer associates at most other large law firms who
are placed in a rotation consisting of just a few specialties, I had the
opportunity to work on multiple projects in virtually every practice area of
the firm. The unique flexibility of the whiteboard assignment system permitted
me to gain experience in many diverse areas of law and to interact and work
closely with numerous partners and associates. This wide range of exposure will
allow me to make a much more educated decision when ultimately choosing a
practice group to enter and an area of law in which to specialize."

Sarah Molina - Saint
Louis University School of Law
“I couldn’t have asked for a better summer experience.
Thompson Coburn provided me with the best of both worlds: the resources and
diversity of a large firm and the intimacy of small-to-medium-sized practice
groups. The firm matches each Summer Associate with a mentor to help guide us
through the summer program, to introduce us to people who share our interests,
both professional and personal, and to help integrate us into the firm.
Thompson Coburn embraces people from diverse backgrounds and welcomes a variety
of viewpoints. As a mother of three children, I noticed from day one that I
would not have to sacrifice my family to have a career at Thompson Coburn. The
firm has wonderful female role models who are available for advice on how to
achieve life-work balance.”

Meaghan Moriarty -
University of Minnesota School of Law
“Thompson Coburn’s summer program provides the perfect
opportunity to experience both life as an associate at the firm and the riches
that St. Louis has to offer. The firm allows summer associates to chose the
projects that interest them. As a result, I was able to learn about the law in
several litigation and transactional fields rather than being assigned to do
work for only one or two groups for the entire summer. I have worked on several
employment and labor issues, analyzed the best way to help a new healthcare
system enter the Missouri market, researched corporate ethics and drafted a
residential nursing home agreement. A mock trial provided us with an
opportunity to develop and try our own case in front of an experienced judge.
As a newcomer to the city, I found Thompson Coburn ideally suited to helping me
to explore multiple practice areas, to develop relationships with associates
and partners, and to establish a social network outside the office.
The best part of the summer program really is the people. Not
only have I had the invaluable opportunity to witness and participate in the
working dynamics of multiple practice areas, but everyone that I have met has
truly cared about learning who I am and what my interests are. One of the most
memorable experiences of the summer was the invitation to have dinner at the
home of one of the partners in an informal and entertaining setting. Thompson
Coburn, and St. Louis, already feel like home to me.”

Jennifer Prosky -
Washington University School of Law
"Having just finished my first year of law school, I have
been so impressed with the numerous opportunities I have had to do real work on
major cases and for important clients. I have always been treated as part of
the team: attending depositions, receiving case updates and seeing my work sent
to clients. The attorneys I have worked with have been so friendly and
welcoming, and have been genuinely interested in getting to know us. Whether
preparing for the summer associate mock trial or watching the Cardinals play
from the TC suite, we have been treated like a part of the firm. I couldn’t
imagine a better summer experience."

Colin Watson - University
of Michigan School of Law
"One of the Summer Program's many strengths is that it
provides summer associates with ample opportunity to experience the actual
practice of law outside of the office with Thompson Coburn attorneys. Attending
depositions, client conferences, and court arguments were some of the most
interesting, rewarding, and educative experiences I had all summer. Watching
Thompson Coburn attorneys in action helped to put my work product into context
and enhanced my understanding of the larger projects to which I was
contributing."

Sean Murphy - Saint
Louis University School of Law
“A summer at Thompson Coburn provides a challenging
experience in a very rewarding environment. As a summer associate, I
encountered complex legal scenarios on a day to day basis. My work assignments
allowed me to participate in numerous matters and play an active role in case
development. Given my participation, I leave this summer with a better sense of
TC’s practice areas and the type of law I wish to practice. This has truly been
an unforgettable summer.”
