On October 26, Thompson Coburn partners David Straus and
Gary Newell attended the annual dinner of firm client
American Municipal Power, one of the nation’s preeminent associations of municipal electric systems. The dinner was attended by more than 450 people, including representatives of AMP member cities, AMP management, vendors and consultants.
At the dinner, American Municipal Power honored David for his 32 years of service to the association, made him an honorary member, announced that his photograph would be one of the first five to be posted on the association’s new “wall of fame,” and presented him with a resolution adopted by the association’s board of directors. The resolution praised David’s “tireless efforts and passion for public power” that have “contributed to the growth of AMP and helped the organization attain its position as a national leader in public power.” During those 32 years, AMP, formerly AMP-Ohio, grew from a small organization with only two employees, a small handful of members located exclusively in Ohio and no commercial activity to one with hundreds of employees, 128 municipal members in six states and annual power sales totaling $676 million.
