This alert is to inform you of amendments to the Illinois Continuation Law signed into law by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn on June 18, 2009 and effective on that date. The Illinois Continuation Law (“Illinois Law”) generally applies to fully-insured group hospital, surgical and major medical plans (including HMOs) maintained by employers that are exempt from the federal COBRA continuation coverage requirements (for example, because they regularly employ less than 20 employees).
