Thompson Coburn is proud to announce the addition of four attorneys to the Health Care Group: partner Joan Lebow, counsel Suzanne Ritzler, and associates Kelly Gawne and Nicole Jobe. Ritzler will serve as a member of both the Corporate and Securities Group and the Health Care Group.

Lebow, Ritzler, and Gawne formerly served in the health care practice of Ulmer Berne LLP in Chicago. Jobe previously served as general counsel for Benchmark Healthcare Management, LLC, in St. Louis.

As former in-house counsel to some of Chicago’s most prominent hospitals, Joan Lebow has extensive experience leading a wide variety of commercial transactions and corporate and regulatory affairs. She has particular experience in health care regulation, with a focus on reimbursement and compliance, data security, software licensing and insurance. Her clients range from international consulting companies, institutional health care providers and physician practices, to entrepreneurial businesses. Her health care and corporate practice includes commercial transactions, regulatory compliance with an emphasis on public and private reimbursement, data privacy and security, clinical operations, the development and protection of intellectual property assets, and software licensing. As former corporate counsel, Joan established the legal department at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and served as assistant general counsel of Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She was also general counsel of ibex Healthdata Systems, Inc., of Chicago. Joan earned her law degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and her B.A. from Pitzer College in Claremont California.

Suzanne Ritzler has more than 20 years of experience in the corporate transactional arena. She advises a variety of companies and individuals with respect to consulting and outsourcing arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, financial transactions, contractual drafting and negotiation, and general corporate and governance matters. An experienced business counselor, Suzanne has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of consulting and outsourcing agreements designed to meet a variety of business needs, with a focus on those in the health care field. She has negotiated stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures worth tens of millions of dollars. She also has helped clients successfully navigate joint ventures, commercial loans, venture capital and other financial transactions. A Certified Public Accountant, Suzanne earned her law degree from University of Chicago, in addition to a B.S. from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Dominican University.

Kelly Gawne counsels physicians, hospitals, and health care organizations on a variety of legal matters, including regulatory compliance, fraud and abuse issues, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, medical staff matters, and other transactions. She has experience in the negotiation and drafting of contractual agreements, general corporate and governance matters, and employment relations. A regular presenter and writer about health care law issues, Kelly earned her B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and her J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Nicole Jobe has extensive experience representing and advising skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. As former general counsel for Benchmark Healthcare Management, LLC, in St. Louis, she has participated in numerous health care transactions ranging from operation transfers and real estate financings to health-care receivable financings. She has a broad range of experience in licensing, certificates of need, special focus facilities and provider agreement termination and enrollment. Nicole earned her J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law. She also earned an LL.M. in taxation, magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law. She earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma.
