New Thompson Coburn partner Bob Wallace took to the St. Louis airways on December 15 to talk about his new sports law practice with sports broadcasters Frank Cusumano and Martin Kilcoyne on 590 The Fan KFNS.
During the 40-minute radio appearance on the Press Box show, the broadcasters probed Wallace about his new Thompson Coburn practice and the toughest player contract negotiations he handled during his 16 years with the St. Louis Rams.
“You had to be careful with sports negotiations,” Wallace said. “Because once the negotiation is concluded, it’s the beginning of the relationship, not the end. It’s like a marriage. You don’t really want to polarize it and make it too nasty to begin with.”
The broadcasters also grilled Wallace about the Rams’ coaching struggles, the possibility of the team leaving St. Louis, and the financial prospects of a new St. Louis stadium.
“I think what you hope happens is the civic leaders and Stan [Kroenke] and his people all sit down and say, ‘What can we do to make this a viable situation?’” Wallace said.
