Environmental
Thompson Coburn’s environmental attorneys represent maritime clients in environmental audits and litigation matters in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Our attorneys counsel clients in connection with environmental issues associated with business acquisitions and sales, including the identification, evaluation, allocation and management of environmental risks and liabilities associated with the acquisition and divestiture of vessels and shipping businesses.
We work with our shipping clients, including oil companies, on a variety of environmental laws and help clients understand and comply with the myriad state and federal environmental laws applicable to vessels and the shipping industry. We advise clients on issues relating to the Oil Pollution Act (OPA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (Clean Water Act). We also assist in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs to reduce the risk of potentially significant fines, penalties and criminal proceedings.
