Southern Illinois Office

Through our predecessor firms, Thompson Coburn has maintained an office in Southern Illinois since 1917, and we continue that commitment to the region.

Southern Illinois, "with less than one percent of the United States population, attracts more class actions each year than some of the nation's most populous communities" (according to the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research). Each year the number of class action cases filed in Madison County increases, even though the companies being sued generally are not even Illinois businesses and do not have a significant presence in the state. According to the same publication, "nearly every case involves attorneys who…travel to Madison County to bring their lawsuits because they consider it a favorable venue."

While many attorneys come to the area to try cases, few firms maintain offices in Southern Illinois. We have a number of seasoned trial attorneys who work from the Southern Illinois office. These attorneys have handled hundreds of cases in Southern Illinois trial courts, as well as appeals before the Fifth District Appellate Court, the Supreme Court of Illinois and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

The attorneys in our Southern Illinois office are particularly skilled regarding class actions involving product liability, FELA, labor and retaliatory discharge issues, and the Railway Labor Act. Clients also can work with the class action attorneys in our St. Louis office who have significant experience in class actions involving insurance companies and financial institutions.
