Thompson Coburn invites you to join us for Real Estate Development Toolbox, a legal workshop series designed to give real estate professionals the legal tools needed to build a sturdy business. Each month, our real estate practice will spotlight timely legal topics of interest from both a real estate and larger business perspective.
Thursday, October 5, 2017:
Are you leaving money on the table?
In our series kickoff, real estate tax and commercial finance partner Anita Mauro and real estate land use partner Katriina McGuire will discuss real estate tax incentives and Enterprise Zone benefits available to developers and real estate owners in Chicago and Cook County.
Real estate tax incentives are available for a range of properties and developments, including landmarked or contributing buildings, contaminated commercial properties, development of affordable multi-family housing and industrial rehabilitation work.
Enterprise Zone benefits include sales tax exemptions on construction material purchases and a real estate transfer tax exemption. Several popular development areas are within Enterprise Zones, including the West Loop and North Branch Industrial Corridor.
