Dan is a solution-oriented health care attorney and business advisor to senior health care leaders. He brings to bear 20 years' experience solving complex strategic, transactional, regulatory, and litigation/internal investigation matters for clients.
Dan advises clients by drawing on his years of experience as a general counsel and corporate secretary for a Walgreens subsidiary as well as having held other senior legal roles within a Fortune 20 global company. Most recently, Dan served in the C-suite as the primary legal and corporate governance advisor to the executive management and board of directors for the nation's third largest specialty and mail order pharmacy. In this role, he led all legal, compliance, and privacy matters, advised on strategic transactions and transformational deals, and, amongst other responsibilities, helped HR leaders create enterprise employment policies.
His broad base of experience equips him to serve clients as a strategic thought partner who can deliver business-forward practical guidance to leaders across levels in numerous areas, including: commercial transactions, health care regulatory, pharmaceutical contracting (procurement, rebates, data reporting), reimbursement arrangements, corporate governance and board relations, strategy and innovation, finance/accounting/audit, compliance and privacy, human resources (employee relations and comp/benefits plans), IT innovation and data security, litigation, real estate, intellectual property, operations, M&A, marketing/branding/sales, clinical/quality, accreditation, and restructuring.
As a former civil Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago, combined with his previous private practice and in-house roles, Dan possesses deep experience leading internal investigations into fraud, medical billing, and other compliance/privacy matters, and he regularly advises senior business leaders on how to manage consumer complaints and audits by payor and pharmaceutical clients, accreditation agencies, and federal and state regulatory agencies.
Dan started his legal career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney focused on civil health care and other fraud cases as well as defending the federal government, its agencies, and employees in a wide variety of civil lawsuits. During his time with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Dan collaborated with numerous federal and state law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, numerous federal OIGs, the Illinois Attorney General's Office and the Illinois State Police. He also tried several jury and bench trials and handled nine appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals, including several with oral argument.
