Dave Mangian represents and advises major companies in complex commercial litigation, as well as state and local tax (SALT) controversies.

Dave’s complex trial and appellate litigation practice spans a wide range of disputes, sectors and jurisdictions. He defends Fortune 500 companies, large financial institutions and privately held businesses in major consumer class actions—including multi-district data breach cases in both the financial services and healthcare sectors.

Dave has developed a strong niche representing corporate taxpayers with disputes before Missouri local taxing authorities in corporate income, franchise, sales/use, property and other tax controversies. He has also represented a number of utilities and heavy industrial manufacturers in cases litigating Missouri property tax appeals. Dave has successfully handled SALT controversies in the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission, the Missouri State Tax Commission and Missouri state courts, as well as in Illinois.

Dave also has significant experience handling complex contractual disputes and indemnification claims, and in defending financial institutions in cases involving alleged lender liability, check collection and check fraud, consumer protection and other Uniform Commercial Code claims. Across all areas of his practice, he has successfully handled appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Illinois Appellate Court.

Prior to joining the firm, Dave first honed his litigation skills working as a Special Assistant Public Defender in the St. Louis City Trial Office of the Missouri State Public Defenders System. During that time, he handled hundreds of criminal matters, advocating on behalf of indigent clients charged with misdemeanor and felony crimes. As lead counsel, he tried multiple bench and jury trials to conclusion.
