Omar Malik drafts, reviews and updates complex trusts and estate plans and handles sophisticated tax matters for individuals and businesses. Additionally, he creates legal, financial, tax and governance documents and advises on estate, gift and generation skipping tax questions as well as business succession, legacy and charitable planning.

Before joining Thompson Coburn, Omar was a leader in the Wealth Management unit at Edward Jones. There, he worked directly with financial advisors and clients as a subject matter expert on tax, estate planning and investments. In addition, in his role as an enterprise product counsel in legal, he provided strategic and tactical support for initiatives affecting the firm’s wealth management and investment tools, systems and technology.

Omar also previously handled business taxation, estate planning and general corporate transactional and litigation matters at another St. Louis-area law firm. After receiving his tax LL.M., he worked in domestic and international tax planning roles for public accounting firms and in-house with a global manufacturing firm in the Chicago area.

Outside of work, Omar serves as president of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of St. Louis and on the Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS) Board of Trustees. He enjoys traveling with his family, running, playing racquet sports, and exploring different cultures and cuisines.

I enjoy reading leadership books – “Smart Brevity” is a top contender – and listening to Adam Grant and Brene Brown’s podcasts. Another favorite is NPR’s podcast “How I Built This.” I also read contemporary fiction and frequent art museums.
