April Kirkley on Leveraging Value‑Based Exceptions to Support Physician Retention

Thompson Coburn Health Care partner April Kirkley authored an article for the American Health Law Association (AHLA) examining how hospitals can use the federal value‑based exceptions under the Stark Law to strengthen physician retention and advance their organizational quality and cost‑containment goals.

“Health systems are under increasing pressure to improve quality, reduce costs and enhance patient outcomes – all while navigating complex regulatory frameworks. Physician retention is critical to achieving these goals as physicians are instrumental in maintaining continuity in care delivery, preserving institutional knowledge, and ensuring alignment with hospital quality and cost goals,” she wrote.
