Thompson Coburn partner Bill Bay has been named to the Missouri Lawyers Media Business Defense 2026 Power List. The annual list spotlights the most powerful attorneys who defend businesses and corporations in court. The list includes “the most powerful attorneys who defend businesses and corporations in court. These are practitioners who defend their clients on claims ranging from products liability to premises liability, contesting plaintiffs’ claims at every turn and taking great pride in a verdict form that reads: $0.,” the publication noted.
Bill represents companies in high-stakes litigation and advises businesses on managing and responding to large, multi-jurisdictional portfolios of cases. His work has spanned highly complex, document-intensive matters involving breach of contract, fraud, corporate governance, insurance coverage, lost profits, lender liability, and tortious interference.
“Bill Bay recently concluded his term as president of the American Bar Association — the first from St. Louis to hold the office in more than four decades,” the publication’s profile on Bill stated. “He was lead counsel for the prevailing party in ITT Commercial Finance Corp. v. Mid-America Marine Supply Corp., likely the most cited case in Missouri, which addressed summary judgment practice and which he argued before the Supreme Court of Missouri.”
On what he sees reshaping commercial litigation going forward, Bill noted that AI, e-discovery and data analytics will be central drivers of change, particularly as clients push for greater efficiency, more proactive risk management and portfolio-based strategies to handle repeated or nationwide claims.
