In a recent interview with The American Lawyer, Thompson Coburn Chair Chris Hohn shared insights into the firm’s robust 2024 financial performance and expressed confidence for continued success in 2025.
“2024 really was a super-strong year on a number of different bases,” said Chris, who began serving as firm chair in August. Busy practices included higher education, health care, labor and employment, litigation, banking and commercial finance, and M&A, he said.
The article noted the firm’s strong financial performance last year, with revenue growth of more than 7%, putting it again among the top 150 firms in the Am Law 200 rankings.
Chris also emphasized ongoing plans for strategic growth, informed by client service needs. “Growth is the theme of management. It’s my mantra really, and I said it last year, I’ll say it this year.”
Expressing optimism for the year, he said lawyers are needed more in times of uncertainty. Getting close to midway through the year, the firm is “super-well positioned in what we have in the pipeline,” he said.

The firm is also pursuing growth through three task forces focused on expanding core practices in existing markets, evaluating potential expansion and strengthening firmwide business development efforts.
“All of our partners know everything about everyone’s practice,” he said, citing that about 20 percent of billable hours cross office lines. “It showcases that people really want the right team on the job — no matter where they sit.”
