The U.S. Department of Education’s new “state authorization” rule is set to become effective this coming July 1, 2018. Among other things, the rule will require institutions offering online programming to demonstrate that they are authorized to offer their programs in every state where they enroll students who receive federal financial aid, and to make a wide range of required disclosures to students enrolled in online programs. There is some possibility that the current administration will act to delay the rule, or Congress will move to eliminated the rule as part of HEA reauthorization. But whether and to what extent these efforts will come to pass is presently unknown.
This webinar will provide an overview of the state authorization rule and the core disclosure requirements, and delve into some of the many nuanced issues that have arisen as schools have sought to implement the rule.
