Thompson Coburn was named the first-place honoree among midsize companies in the St. Louis Business Journal’s 2026 Corporate Philanthropy Awards. The firm earned the recognition for contributing $5.2 million in cash and in-kind donations throughout the St. Louis region in 2025.
According to the St. Louis Business Journal profile of the firm, Thompson Coburn’s philanthropic reach extends well beyond St. Louis to communities nationwide. Firm Chair Chris Hohn explained that decisions about charitable giving are guided by both the firm’s core values and the priorities of employees across its offices. “Each of our offices plays an active role in identifying the philanthropic efforts that matter most to them,” he said. “Those priorities can shift from year to year. For instance, last spring and summer we focused heavily on tornado recovery in St. Louis, providing not only financial assistance but also supporting employees who volunteered their time in the field.”
Chris also addressed how economic conditions influence the firm’s approach to giving. “Our commitment to corporate philanthropy remains strong and intentionally adaptable,” he said. “We view economic conditions as an important signal of where support is needed most, allowing us to respond thoughtfully as community challenges evolve. By staying flexible and partnering with trusted organizations, we strive to deliver meaningful, lasting support to the communities we serve, regardless of broader economic shifts.”
This marks the fifth consecutive year Thompson Coburn has been recognized as the top midsize company in St. Louis for corporate philanthropy. Read the Business Journal’s full profile here and view the photo gallery from the awards event here.
