Georgia Loukas Demeros is an estate planning advisor and personal general counsel for individuals, families, and business leaders, advising on an array of wealth and business issues.
Georgia takes on a “quarterback” role to provide counsel on complex estate planning and company succession planning issues for individuals and closely held businesses, serving each client’s individual and business interests holistically.
Closely held businesses have distinct estate planning needs, and Georgia regularly works with business owners to meet their estate planning and business objectives by reviewing and drafting operating and shareholder agreements, advising on insurance planning to fund owner buyouts, drafting trust agreements, assisting in trust funding and advising in the structuring of the business and other governance matters.
Multi-generational families turn to Georgia to advise them on wealth transfer issues, such as estate planning, lifetime gifts, estate tax and probate matters, and business succession planning. She has led significant tax work and corporate restructuring for family-owned and other closely held businesses to achieve a successful transition to the next generation of owners. Additionally, she handles the administration of decedents’ estates, and represents families in court proceedings to open probate estates, post-mortem estate tax planning, preparation and filing of estate tax returns and all other probate matters.
Georgia draws on her background as a CPA to analyze assets, tax liabilities, commercial entity structures, and personal goals. She builds strong relationships with clients over many years and creates practical blueprints for their legacy planning. With an emphasis on clear communication, she helps them navigate the estate planning, administration and succession planning process.
Georgia frequently takes on pro bono work and participates in philanthropic and nonprofit organizations in her community. She was recognized as the Hellenic Bar Association’s Lawyer of the Year in 2020 and has been named as one of Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Women in Law and among the “Top Forty Lawyers Under 40 to Watch” by Law Bulletin Publishing Company. She is a regular speaker on estate planning topics for various organizations.
