Business Litigation Practice Group

Litigation Attorney - Southern Illinois

Thompson Coburn is seeking a litigation attorney to join its office in Belleville. Candidates should have 1-2 years of litigation experience or be a recent law school graduate who will sit for the bar in July. The ideal candidate must have exceptional academic achievement, excellent analytical and writing skills, and the ability to function both independently and within a team.  

Candidates should be licensed to practice in Illinois or Missouri or seeking to be admitted in either or both states.  A hybrid in-person/remote work arrangement is eligible for this position.

Corporate & Securities Practice Group

Corporate & Securities Associate – Los Angeles

Thompson Coburn is seeking an associate with 3-5 years of general corporate, securities and transactional experience. Candidates must have experience in M&A, entity formation and governance, private placements of securities including venture capital transactions, and negotiation of employment and incentive equity documentation. Experience with start up companies, technology licensing and founder documentation would be helpful. Ability to work directly with sophisticated clients and other counsel, as well as across firm offices.

Energy Practice Group

Energy Associate – Washington, D.C.

The Washington, D.C. office of Thompson Coburn LLP is seeking to welcome a junior- to mid-level associate into its dynamic Energy Group. The candidate must be independent, a self-starter, energetic and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. Experience before FERC and/or knowledge of electric or natural gas pipeline regulation is required. A candidate that is familiar with FERC’s pro forma open access transmission tariff, standard generator interconnection procedures and agreements, and formula rates is preferred. Administrative litigation experience is a plus.

The attorneys in our top-ranked, nation-wide energy practice work closely as a team to provide legal guidance and creative solutions to a diverse group of energy industry clients across North America. We effectively represent clients before FERC, NERC, state utility commissions, and state and federal courts on the Federal Power Act, Natural Gas Act, and Interstate Commerce Act; all stages of energy litigation; compliance programs and guidelines; NERC reliability standards, audits and investigations; energy market design issues; strategic transactions including purchase and sale of electricity, natural gas, oil, and facilities; the operation of hydropower facilities through the FERC licensing and relicensing processes and the corresponding state and federal resource agencies’ processes.

The successful candidate can expect to work on a wide variety of matters, and duties will include legal research, writing, client counseling, hearings and trials, and other advocacy before a variety of governmental agencies.

Energy Group Senior Associate/Counsel – Washington, D.C.

The Washington, D.C. office of Thompson Coburn LLP is seeking to welcome a senior associate or counsel into its dynamic Energy Group. The candidate must be independent, a self-starter, energetic and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. Experience before FERC and knowledge of electric regulation is required. In particular, a candidate must be familiar with FERC’s pro forma open access transmission tariff, standard generator interconnection procedures and agreements, and formula rates. The ideal candidate also will be capable of taking on substantial roles in and responsibility for project management and be comfortable with client interaction. Experience as lead counsel on one or more FERC matters is preferred. Administrative litigation and appellate court experience is a plus.

Finance Group

Commercial Finance Associate – Dallas or Los Angeles

Candidates should have 2-5 years of experience in the drafting and negotiation of transactions for banks, direct lenders and private funds including loan, syndication and agency documentation.  Ideal candidate will be able to draft and negotiate commercial finance documents and understand the various diligence and customary ancillary and closing aspects of typical secured lending transactions under the UCC, and further be able to work directly with sophisticated clients and other counsel. Experience with special purpose vehicles, equity instruments and alternative asset classes (technology, cryptocurrency and fintech) would be especially helpful.

Thompson Coburn is seeking an associate attorney to join our Banking & Commercial Finance group in the Los Angeles office. Candidates should have 2-5 years of experience in the drafting and negotiation of transactions for bank and alternative capital providers on both secured and unsecured financings. Ideal candidate will be able to draft and negotiate commercial finance transaction documents and understand the various diligence and customary ancillary and closing aspects of typical lending transactions, and further be able to work directly with sophisticated clients and other counsel.
