Business Litigation Practice Group

Litigation Associate – New York

Thompson Coburn Hahn & Hessen is seeking an associate with 2-4 years of relevant legal experience to join its business litigation section in the New York office. We are seeking candidates with exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills in addition to a detail-oriented mindset. Candidates must have strong academic achievement and the ability to function both independently and within a team environment. Prior commercial litigation experience in both state and federal court in New York is a plus. 

Thompson Coburn is a national AMLAW 150 law firm with more than 400 attorneys practicing in more than 50 areas of law. The Firm has offices in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Southern Illinois, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. At Thompson Coburn, associates are developed and supported as a professional with the goal of them joining our partnership. Associates are expected to record at least 1900 hours annually, which includes billable client time as well as time for pro bono, diversity and other non-billable initiatives. Attorneys receive hands-on training on the practice aspects of practicing law, as well as extensive networking and business development opportunities. The salary range for this position in our New York office is $195,000-$230,000 for a candidate with this level of experience. Actual salary will vary based on relevant skills, training and other job-related factors. The range listed is just one of Thompson Coburn’s total compensation and benefits package for associates, which also includes eligibility for productivity and discretionary bonuses; life, health, accident and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.

Energy Practice Group

Energy Associate – Washington, D.C.

The Washington, D.C. office of Thompson Coburn LLP is seeking to welcome a junior- to mid-level associate into its dynamic Energy Group. The candidate must be independent, a self-starter, energetic and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. Experience before FERC and/or knowledge of electric or natural gas pipeline regulation is required. A candidate that is familiar with FERC’s pro forma open access transmission tariff, standard generator interconnection procedures and agreements, and formula rates is preferred. Administrative litigation experience is a plus.

The attorneys in our top-ranked, nation-wide energy practice work closely as a team to provide legal guidance and creative solutions to a diverse group of energy industry clients across North America. We effectively represent clients before FERC, NERC, state utility commissions, and state and federal courts on the Federal Power Act, Natural Gas Act, and Interstate Commerce Act; all stages of energy litigation; compliance programs and guidelines; NERC reliability standards, audits and investigations; energy market design issues; strategic transactions including purchase and sale of electricity, natural gas, oil, and facilities; the operation of hydropower facilities through the FERC licensing and relicensing processes and the corresponding state and federal resource agencies’ processes.

The successful candidate can expect to work on a wide variety of matters, and duties will include legal research, writing, client counseling, hearings and trials, and other advocacy before a variety of governmental agencies.  A hybrid in-person/remote work arrangement is eligible for this position.

Energy Group Senior Associate/Counsel – Washington, D.C.

The Washington, D.C. office of Thompson Coburn LLP is seeking to welcome a senior associate or counsel into its dynamic Energy Group. The candidate must be independent, a self-starter, energetic and possess strong writing and interpersonal skills. Experience before FERC and knowledge of electric regulation is required. In particular, a candidate must be familiar with FERC’s pro forma open access transmission tariff, standard generator interconnection procedures and agreements, and formula rates. The ideal candidate also will be capable of taking on substantial roles in and responsibility for project management and be comfortable with client interaction. Experience as lead counsel on one or more FERC matters is preferred. Administrative litigation and appellate court experience is a plus.

Government/Development Group

Tax Credit Attorney – Chicago, Dallas, or Washington D.C.

Thompson Coburn is seeking an attorney with 5-7+ years of experience to join its tax credit finance practice.  Experience with new markets tax credits is required. 

The practice is an active and diverse practice with a focus on tax-credit subsidized equity and debt financings, including new markets tax credits, historic rehabilitation tax credits, low-income housing tax credits and renewable energy tax credits.  The successful candidate will be an outgoing self-starter who can quickly take a lead role in the documentation and closing of these transactions on behalf of firm clients, including investors, banks, community development entities, developers and nonprofits.

Health Care Practice Group

Health Care Associate – St. Louis

Thompson Coburn LLP’s corporate health care practice area is seeking a mid-level Associate to join its St. Louis office. The position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of corporate transactions and regulatory matters for health care organizations, including health care systems, hospitals, health insurance companies, long term care providers, physician practices and other health care-related businesses. Candidates may expect a hybrid working environment consistent with Firm policy for associate attorneys. 

Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of experience working on regulatory and corporate transactional matters in the health care industry and an in-depth understanding of Fraud and Abuse, Stark, Medicare reimbursement, hospital-physician relationships, provider-payor relationships and HIPAA.
