Thompson Coburn makes third appearance on Client Service 30 list

November 21, 2013

Corporate counsel across the country have again ranked Thompson Coburn as one of the top 30 firms in the nation for exceptional client service.

It’s the third time the firm has appeared on the Client Service 30, compiled by BTI Consulting, the leading provider of strategic research to law firms and general counsel.

BTI conducted objective, in-depth interviews with 300 in-house counsel for the survey. All respondents work for Fortune 1000 companies. About 650 law firms provide legal services to that segment of American companies, BTI President Michael Rynowecer told Law360. But the firms on the Client Service 30 list comprise the law firms that corporate counsel ranked the highest across 17 categories of service, including client focus, legal skills and breadth of services.

Thompson Coburn was one of just two firms outside of the AmLaw 100 to appear on the list. The results support a trend outlined in a recent study by CounselLink: More corporate counsel are looking to midsize firms for assistance in navigating big-ticket litigation and successfully executing corporate transactions.

"We're still at the stage in the market where client service is more important than size," Rynowecer said to Law360. “[Midsize firms] can usually be a little more flexible, and they sometimes move a little bit quicker than the megafirms can."
