Robert is a commercial litigator handling highly visible and complex lawsuits. He is a business advisor for his clients, pursuing strategic alternatives focused on solving problems of all kinds. He works to avoid or end litigation through creative resolutions while achieving client goals efficiently.
With 30+ years of experience as a trial lawyer, Robert represents many of corporate America's largest financial institutions, title insurance companies, service companies, publicly traded companies, and privately-held businesses. Robert works closely with his clients to obtain an in-depth understanding of their business and its objectives, formulating and implementing cost-effective legal solutions and taking a proactive result-oriented approach that mitigates client risk and eliminates issues that could lead to unnecessary problems or lawsuits.
Robert has a long track record of successful results representing companies of all sizes, achieving favorable outcomes in trials and appeals. His expansive experience includes handling matters relating to lien foreclosures, lien priority, defects in title, mortgage rescue fraud, secured creditor defalcation, fraudulent conveyances, construction-related defects, prejudgment attachment and advanced special remedies on behalf of creditors. Completing his judicial clerkship in 1993 with the Honorable Dom J. Rizzi of the Appellate Court of Illinois, First Judicial District, Robert has significant trial and appellate experience and prevails on appeal for his clients in Illinois' state and federal courts, including notably as the lead trial court and appellate attorney in Bell Leasing Brokerage, LLC v. Roger Auto Service, Inc., 372 Ill. App. 3d 461 (2007), Leja v. Sirack, 387 Ill. App. 3d 1174 (2009), Azar v. FY Developments, LLC, 2016 IL App (1st) 151932-U, Maron v. American Enterprise Bank, 2022 WL 807379 (7th Cir. March 16, 2022), and Matter of Aguirre, 37 F.4th 427 (7th Cir. 2022).
In addition to his work as a commercial litigator, Robert also serves as a strategic business partner and counselor for a variety of companies, from startups to multi-level international organizations. He provides thoughtful, proactive legal counsel on agreements, day-to-day business operations, strategic transactions and matters relating to partnership and corporate governance disputes.
