Sustainability

“Sustainable development is meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
World Commission on Environment and Development

We recognize that all human activity, including the operation of a law firm, has an impact on the environment and the natural world. As a firm and as individuals we make daily choices in performing work to better manage the resources we use.

We start with commitment. Our values statement clearly states our intent to “aggressively pursue business processes that support the long-term sustainability of our environment.” And we back that commitment with action.
  • Thompson Coburn has established a formal sustainability committee with responsibility for identifying opportunities to reduce waste and implement sustainable office practices.
  • Sustainability is considered in the purchase of supplies, equipment and services.
  • The firm has implemented a recycling program where we recycle paper, computers, cell phones, office supplies and office furniture.
  • We have invested in technology to support reducing business travel, including teleconferencing options.
  • We promote strategies for reducing the impact of travel, including car pooling and commuter program subsidies.
  • Where practical, we have established baselines for practices that can be measured, such as paper used, recycled content of supplies, and disposables purchased.
  • We educate our people on sustainability matters, recognizing individual initiative as the key component of successful implementation.
  • We are recognized as a partner by the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge.
Thompson Coburn values the communities in which we work and live. We recognize the importance of success of our sustainability initiatives. We will continue to look for ways to positively impact our environment, identifying and adopting best practices whenever possible.
