Last month, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General issued a Special Fraud Alert regarding fraud and abuse concerns related to speaker programs offered by pharmaceutical and medical device companies. DOJ continues to pursue health care fraud during COVID-19 pandemic

Despite the pandemic, the DOJ is continuing to investigate allegations of health care fraud. A recent settlement from Wheeling Hospital serves as a reminder to hospitals to review their physician compensation arrangements to ensure that they are within fair market value and considered commercially reasonable.
